Marti
Hawkins is a Sumi painter, an Oriental style of brush painting
using watercolor and ink on rice paper. It is an ancient art
form, adapting well to modern interpretations and style. Ms.
Hawkins has painted in the Sumi manner for almost 35 years,
has shown in galleries throughout Maryland and has had her paintings
accepted in juried shows. All her work is original, paintings
as well as hand painted note cards, holiday cards and place
cards. She has developed unique designs of flowers, fruit and
animals for the note cards which contain five assorted images
per pack.
Ms.
Hawkins grew up in Florida, studied foreign language in college,
and went in the Peace Corps after graduation. She has owned
an art gallery, taught Spanish and was the administrator and
senior editor of a foreign language research center. Marti
is married with two grown children and three grandchildren.
She has lived in Chestertown since 1988 and is involved in
many civic, arts, church and recreational activities.
