Originally
interested in and drawn to the collection of precious and semi-precious
rocks and minerals, Ruth and Shipley Newlin have been working
with them, cutting, polishing and carving, for twenty five years.
This led naturally to the study and practice of metal smithing,
wire working and constructing with precious metal clay. They
also have an interest in working and creating in warm glass,
generally Moretti glass from Italy and dichroic glass, which
they use in a fusing process. The hobby has long outgrown its
hobbiness and become a retirement avocation. Their work is for
sale at the Rock Hall Gallery and some can also be seen at Artworks
in Chestertown and the Chestertown Art League.
